The Best LinkedIn Messages Example You Will Find

Whether you are new to LinkedIn or have been using it since it was founded in 2002, LinkedIn messages are a great way to connect with people and generate new business. This article has a proven template you need to write great messages and receive instant responses.

A few days ago I was using LinkedIn to catch up on client messages and check on advertising campaigns for my clients when I suddenly received a request from someone I had never met before. They were in my network and had mutual connections but the name did not ring a bell.

When I usually receive a connection request, it is very generic and uses the default connection message that LinkedIn provides. This one on the other hand used a personalized message which caught my attention. It read:

Hi Ike, I’m building a network of marketing leaders and I would like to connect with you and share some ideas and maybe provide some services that could bring more clients your way.

-Name

After reading this, I thought it sounded interesting so I accepted the connection request and carried on surfing LinkedIn. Within a few minutes I received a message from the same individual and after reading the message I thought, yes! this is how to use LinkedIn for business.

LinkedIn Messages That Work

Here are a few things that work for successful sales people on LinkedIn even before they use messages:

  • Do some background research on the prospect before connecting
  • Use a personalized, flattering connection request to catch their attention
  • Followed up almost immediately on the accepted invitation to take advantage of the fact that they will still be logged in to LinkedIn which almost guarantees a response.

The difference between LinkedIn and email marketing for example is that LinkedIn messages do not go into spam, they are not blocked by any filters, they simply pop up on the user’s notification tab and the user clicks on it, which is exactly what I did.

This is a message I received from LinkedIn when I accepted a connection request from someone in my network. I received the message notification, clicked on it to check out what it was and it read:

Hey Ike,

Hope everything is going great. Quick question, do you have the capacity for additional clients?

If I generate you inquiries in return for a small fee would you be interested?

I’m currently looking for companies I can generate business for. Are you interested? Let me know.

-Name

My first impression at first was, this might be another sales person who does not know what they are talking about. But, I was still interested to find out how he was going to generate new clients for me, where he would be getting them from and even more importantly how much his ‘small fee’ was going to be.

I wanted to find out because, I felt like I was using all the possible channels to get new clients. His message however made me think, is there some trick in the book that I’m not trying and if so, what is it?

When this person sent his connection invitation or request I didn’t think we were going to be doing business together. Fast forward to just 20 minutes later and he has my phone number and we are talking on the phone about his business solutions and I am about to sign a contract. This happened because he got straight to the point and didn’t direct me to a landing page or give me a long-winded approach to sing up.

How To Use LinkedIn Messages To Generate New Business

After receiving this message from the sales person I wanted to try this method and see if truly works on others or just on me. I used the LinkedIn search bar to target my typical clients who are generally founders of startups or managing directors of small businesses.

By applying search filters I filtered out all the unnecessary contacts and just focused my search on my target audience. it is also worth pointing out that you need to know who your audience is and if is quite broad, focus initially on the ones that generate the most business for you.

After searching on LinkedIn for a specific group of people you can apply the filter seen below to further refine your search.

My search returned over 2 million results of which I only chose 20 to try my little experiment.

The experiment was to find out how many people would respond to this message and how long it took them to do so. The first thing I did was to connect to 20 people in my network. I used a personalized message after skimming their profile and used something unique about them to prompt them to connect with me.

Within a few minutes I got the notification saying that they had begun accepting my connection request and the first three people who accepted my connection request received the same message the sales person sent me with my name signing off at the bottom.

Within another few minutes I got three responses from the connections asking how my program worked! Amazing!

This is how I started generating new business from LinkedIn within a few minutes! I then took this a step further and thought maybe if I optimized my LinkedIn profile and included a variation of the message above in my summary I will increase impressions on LinkedIn and get people visiting my profile and messaging me!
