Learn SEO Basics
Before we begin it is always important to revisit the basics of SEO when it comes to optimizing your website, most people tend to either focus too much on the technical aspect, the content or on-page elements. Search engine optimization is very simple and the reason our unique SEO technique is called TRIDENT is because we believe SEO is all about ONE THING!

When you give users great answers as quickly as possible, accessible on any given device, this makes search engines look good and search engines REWARD websites that make them look good!
This is a very useful way to think about SEO.
If we break down our TRIDENT technique, we uncover several things:
Your webpage should be easy to read and understand, broken up by headings and using images.
Without this first step, you don’t stand a chance in search engines today because the competition is stiff!

Why does your website have to be easy to understand?
Before you even get a chance to provide answers to people through Google search, Google first has to find your website, index it, understand the page content and then decide if it is good enough to rank!
This also means that your website has to be fast enough, be responsive, and have a sitemap.
If you have never done SEO before this is a good place to start. You then have to sign up to Google Search Console to submit your sitemap and start monitoring traffic.
Now, let’s move on to the exciting stuff!
Step 1 - Providing Great Answers To Users
How do you provide great answers to users? By focusing on user intent and producing great quality and unique content. It is that simple, if you search for something on Google right now, you get a bunch of different results and for yours to stand out it has to offer something different and more valuable! here’s how:
Focus on user intent!
Before creating a product page or writing an article you need to determine how people will find that page in a search engine.
This is where keyword research comes in.
The idea here is that you use a keyword research tool to find the search terms that a lot of people search for each month.
The best tool to use is KW Finder, it gives you keyword suggestions with low difficulty.
Once you find good keywords that you can realistically target you can now proceed to create the webpage that targets your chosen keywords.
Creating Your Webpage: The Basics
You may have heard of on-page, off-page and technical SEO.
In our post about the most important SEO tips, we stressed how equally important on-page, off-page and technical SEO are.
They are also extremely important when it comes to providing great answers to users.
There are over 200 factors that Google uses to determine if your webpage should appear on Google for any given search term.
Even though no one knows what the 200 factors are, your webpage content plays an important part in this.

What is the best way to structure your webpage content for great SEO results?
If you are writing an article your title should always include your search term.
Look at the previous article we mentioned earlier about SEO tips, the main keyword is “SEO tips” and it appears prominently in the title of the page.
The keyword also shows up in meta-title. This is the title displayed on the search engine results page (SERP).
If you use WordPress, you can use a plugin to write out your meta-title and description – more about this later!
More importantly, you can see that Google has taken some bits of my article and summarised it in the SERP.
This shows that Google understands my page so much that it knows where the most important part is and pulled that for the user.
Article Structure – Title, Body and Internal Linking
All your articles should have the same structure.
Strong title, using power words and your chosen keywords to grab the users’ attention.
Always start with an opening paragraph explaining what the user is about to read.
Your keyword should also be within that opening paragraph.
By placing your keyword in the title and the paragraph you are helping search engines get a good sense about what your article is about.
You should then proceed to give some context to your article, link out to a relevant, highly authoritative website that gives users more context.
Include an image that adds value to the article and add the keyword to the Alt text of the image.
The body of the article can now be written, start out by listing key points that the user can take away.
You can then start expanding on the key points you listed earlier.
Make sure that your article is broken up by using subheadings.
It is very important to link to other articles you have on your website for the user to follow if they want more information.
This is known as internal linking and it also helps search engines find other pages on your website and understand how they are related.
Once you have written the body of your article, summarize everything in a short paragraph.
Your summary should also include your keywords in a heading and the text.
Product Page Structure
The structure of product pages differs slightly from articles.
Even though the same rules apply with regards to the titles, the content will look much more different.
The same principles apply however, always aim to help search engines understand your pages as much as you want humans to.
Step 2 - Have A Quick Website
I’m sure you have heard all this before, but this is very important especially because more and more users are using mobile devices to search for information and Google is paying attention to this. This means that if your website is not usable on mobile devices you have little to no chance of ranking for any serious search terms. This is not just about speed, it is also about how easily and quickly users can navigate throughout our website.
This is a no-brainer!
Why would Google list your website as the number 1 position in SERPs if they already know that it is slow?
You can test the performance of your website to see if it is up to scratch using the free tool from Google.
There are several plugins out there like Autoptimize that can help you improve the performance of your website.
Speed does not only apply to how quickly your website loads.
It also applies to how quickly users can navigate and find the information they are looking for.
We already stressed the importance of internal linking above but you should also pay attention to having clean, clear navigation.
When designing your website, think about this:
Most users spend only a matter of seconds on your webpage to decide if they are in the right place before exiting.
Have big buttons with clear calls to action, link internally and make sure your pages load quickly!
Step 3 - Accessibility
When it comes to accessibility most people think about responsive design. This is true but did you know that if the buttons on your page are too close together, making it hard to tap on mobile devices, it goes against you? Accessibility is generally about user experience across the board!
Think about how you can offer the best user experience.
Make sure your buttons are big enough on mobile devices and spaced evenly for easy access.
Always test your web on different devices.
Ask a friend to visit one of your web pages or even use a responsive design simulator to test the pages.
Once you are certain that your web pages are more suitable you can re-submit the URLs to Google through the search console.

If you have a product page spend time re-writing your product page content using power words.
Build relevant backlinks to your website by commenting on similar blogs, creating profiles on powerful sites like Amazon.com and Goodreads.
